Animated Movies I love and recommend: Part 1

Up

Up is one of my favorite movies to go back to. It is a story of an old man Carl who refuses to give up his house for a construction company to develop something else there because he has spent all his life with his wife in that house. Now, she is dead, and he has only that house which they made together as a token of their love. But things do not go as planned and he has to fly his house to Paradise falls where his wife always wanted to go but couldn’t. It is a beautiful story full of love, adventure, grief, regrets and making new connections. This is my go-to movie whenever I feel down, and it never fails to make me smile.

Coco

Coco is a beautiful story of a 12-year-old boy Miguel who is born into a family where practicing music is banned because of the past disappointment but Miguel loves music and secretly learns to play guitar. But his family gets to know his secret on the day of the Mexican holiday – Day of the dead and destroys his guitar. Miguel retaliates by stealing the guitar of one of the famous musician and strums it in front of the crowd who were out celebrating the festival. This leads to some extreme turn of events. Coco has some beautiful setting, mind-blowing songs, and fresh storyline. This movie will engage adults and kids both.

Zootopia

Zootopia has built an amazing world of animals where they are shown living regular lives like humans do. Animals are farmers, bureaucrats, politicians, mobs, etc. and manage their daily trials and tribulations. The main character of the movie is Judy who is a rabbit and wants to be the first rabbit police officer in Zootopia. On her first day, she is assigned a traffic duty and there she meets a con artist Nick who is a fox and what begins as a fight soon turns into a beautiful friendship as they find themselves embroiled in a bigger controversy and scandal. I simply loved the storyline, there were some epic scenes in the movie which, I am sure, will go down as one of funniest scenes in an animated movie. I am super excited for its sequel as announced by the makers and will surely go for a re-run before watching the second part.

Elemental

While all the above movies came at-least 5-6 years back, Elemental was released in 2023 and did not receive as much praise as the others mentioned above but I absolutely enjoyed every moment of this movie and its unique concept. Like Zootopia, in this movie also, there is a unique world created by the makers where all the elements like fire, water, air, land live together but fire is somewhat outcast because of its dangerous nature. The main theme of the movie is whether fire and water can be together because the protagonist of the movie Ember who is a fire and Wade who is a water, fall in love with each other. The highlight of the movie for me is its fantastic background score which uplifted the scenes. It’s a sleeper hit, an absolute watch!

Ratatouille

Ratatouille came in 2007 so chances are you have already seen this hugely popular movie but if you haven’t then you are missing out. Remy, a rat has a dream of becoming a great chef one day but of course, it seems difficult when all his family wants to do is search for food and survive. But one day his fate turns, he and his family evacuate the place they used to live in, and Remy gets separated from his family. While wandering the streets he comes across this restaurant where he somehow manages to help a boy in the kitchen to make a soup which everyone finds delicious. After that, what starts is a partnership between the boy and Remy where Remy gives instructions by pulling the boy’s hair from inside his hat. It is a beautiful story about following your dreams and showcasing that anyone can do anything!
